Feeling patriotic this Republic Day? Here are a few ways I celebrate it with my family every year and most of these are outdoor activities. So while in the patriotic spirit, most of my Republic Day is spent outside. But the winters are harsh on the skin and make it dry; so I make sure to use a good moisturizer before leaving the house. Read on and feel free to do the same this Republic Day.
Flag hoisting:
I am lucky enough to have a flag hoisting organised by the people of my colony, which I love to attend. We hoist the flag and sing the national anthem. The atmosphere is very patriotic and is something you must start this day with. I suggest you gather your neighbours and organise a hoisting if no one has already.
Watch the parade:
One of the most amazing things to watch on TV is the Republic Day Parade. After we are done hoisting the flag, I head back home and watch the parade with my family. It was a tradition in my home before and is something I continue to do with my husband and children until this day. The parade truly is a site to see and gives you countless reasons to be proud of your country.
Keep your locality clean:
The land we live on is part of our motherland and keeping it clean should be one of our top priorities. I am a part of a committee in my society that ensures our locality is kept clean throughout the year. You too could join such a committee or help start it. One of the most important things we do on such patriotic days is go around the locality and pick up fallen flags.
Community service:
Besides being part of the society cleanliness committee, I also volunteer with a local group that helps underprivileged children. We provide them with books, stationary, clothes and even help them with their homework and education. I can only hope that you do the same for the underprivileged children in your area. Making a change alone is difficult, but as a group you can do wonders.
Attend / organize a Republic Day event:
The flag hoisting event aside, it is also really fun to attend a Republic Day event. This is how we do it in my colony. We organise a patriotic themed event where we organize a fancy dress and poetry competitions for children and also host a play. You can do the same and host something similar in your area. It is a fun and interesting way to get the community together and in the patriotic spirit.
Visit a patriotic site or a museum:
What better reason than this auspicious occasion to visit local patriotic sites with your family? It is a fun way to educate your children and remind them about our struggle for freedom. But spending the entire day outdoors during winters can seriously take a toll on your skin. I make sure to moisturize my skin with BoroPlus moisturizing lotion before I got out, and I suggest you do the same too.
Visit an exhibition:
Republic Day being a public holiday is when many exhibitions are organised over the city. I myself love to shop, so this is one of the best times to go shopping for all things patriotic. Be it clothes or accessories, almost everything you find in such exhibitions have that patriotic touch to them. So if that’s what you’re looking for, now’s the time for it.
Republic Day is just round the corner and whether you choose to follow what I’ve written above is up to you. But it surely would not hurt to share this with others. After all we all share the same motherland, so let’s make this Republic Day a special one for ourselves and others around us.
